A further 55 people have died with coronavirus in the UK, bringing the nation’s death toll – as of Saturday afternoon – to 46,566.
The figure covers deaths in all settings, including hospitals, care homes, and the community. The actual cause of death may not be Covid-19 in all cases and people who died from the virus but didn’t test positive are not included in the total.
Meanwhile, data from Public Health England shows there has been a significant surge in the rate of infection in cities across the country, including Manchester, Leeds and Bradford.
Bradford reported 262 new individual cases at the end of August 3, with 183 reported in Manchester and 129 detailed in Leeds.
