Both Rio Ferdinand and Owen Hargreaves have backed PSG to make it to their first Champions League final, though the stacked other half of the draw is a little trickier to predict.
The final eight have now been confirmed after wins for Barcelona and Bayern Munich on Friday night, who face off next for the chance to play either Manchester City or Lyon in the semi-final.
In the other half of the draw, PSG take on Serie A side Atalanta and RB Leipzig take on Atletico Madrid – who knocked out previous holders Liverpool prior to the season being suspended.
Ferdinand and Hargreaves feel the French champions are the standout side of the that half of the draw and both pundits expect them to be awaiting Bayern in the final after the German side hammered Chelsea, winning 7-1 on aggregate.
Speaking to BT Sport after yesterday’s results, Ferdinand said: ‘I want Paris Saint-Germain to get there because of the likes of [Kylian] Mbappe and Neymar. You want them glamour players to be there.
‘And I’m going for Bayern with the way they’ve been performing over the season.’
Hargreaves chimed in: ‘I think PSG will be in the final but I think Bayern will be too good for them.’
Asked whether it makes a difference being one legged, Ferdinand replied: ‘Yeah, it adds to it. It makes it better.
‘One game, it’s like the FA Cup. Giant killers. Anyone can beat anyone on any given day and you haven’t got that back-up and that security: “Oh, we can take them home next game”.’
Hargreaves added: ‘It takes away that away goal thing and the tactical thinking. Just go for it.’
On whether Manchester City have a chance, he said: ‘Yeah, for sure. They’re one of the best teams in the competition. But I just think Bayern have a few more variables to their game.’
