America’s Got Talent: Cristina Rae ‘hasn’t stopped crying’ since her powerhouse Golden Buzzer audition

Soul singer Cristina Rae had the nation in tears with her moving audition on America’s Got Talent, and the emotional single mom admits she’s still overwhelmed by it all.

After her unbelievable rendition of The Rolling Stones’ Gimme Shelter helped her bag Heidi Klum’s Golden Buzzer, the singer has been walking on cloud nine about her change in fortune.

Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk, the mom-of-one admitted: ‘It’s been a whirlwind, honestly. I’ve been fairly emotional ever since the audition.

‘I’ve been crying since it aired because it’s all a dream come true. And watching it back brought on the realization that everything I went through in life was for an amazing moment like this.’

She began her audition by singing  Phil Collins’ In the Air Tonight, before Simon Cowell asked her to sing another track.

Cristina admits that in the moment she wasn’t sure if her second song would be received any better.

The singer explained: ‘Honestly, the thing running through my mind was the fact I had never sung Gimme Shelter in front of a proper audience.

‘The only time I had performed it before that audition was when I was rehearsing. So I was really really nervous because I didn’t want to mess this up.’

She added: ‘Plus, the song has even more meaning to me because it’s called Gimme shelter and I’m truly singing to them hoping they’ll let me progress so I can achieve my biggest goal of getting my own home.

‘When Simon asked me to sing the second song, I just thought he needed to hear me sing some more. So that’s exactly what I did.’

The music lover had previously shied away from chasing her dream going on the show, but is now glad she waited until after she became a mother to her son Jeremiah

She stated: ‘I’ve been a singer for a while and performing at different things but nothing as big as this. Just getting on the show and being a Golden Buzzer act is life-changing for me.

‘Just the exposure I’ve already received so far is opening doors for myself and my son, and I’m sure I haven’t even hit a peak of what’s about to happen.’

She continued: ‘And now this is all happening I am realising I’ve never felt this much joy. I’ve never felt happiness like this.

‘After watching the audition, I was putting my baby Jeremiah to bed and he just said, “I’m so happy, Mummy. You got the Golden Buzzer”. He can feel the joy and he’s only three.’

Cristina admitted: ‘This is his experiences as much as it is mine. So if I have to work hard and be in front of a camera in front of millions of people, so that I can continue to hear “I’m so happy Mommy”, then it makes it worth it.’

‘I won’t ever be alone in this because I am a mom. And I have him with me everywhere. I plan to just keep going and I’m just grateful to be able to keep going with him there with me.’

Despite having a powerhouse voice that brings audiences to their feet, Cristina still has to shake off the nerves before every single performance she does.

The singer chuckled as she admitted: ‘I get nervous every time I am about to sing for a crowd.

‘Partly because I realized early on that my voice is a gift so if I do not take care of it, or I mishandle it, or become too prideful, it can taken away at the blink of an eye.’

She continued: ‘So anytime I go on stage, I just want to put on the greatest show I can. I want my voice to allow the audience to see everything I am trying to put across.’

America’s Got Talent continues Tuesdays on NBC and airs on Netflix in the UK.
