Slipknot member Corey Taylor has paid tribute to his late bandmates Joey Jordison and Paul Gray in a throwback photo he uploaded to Instagram.

Fans and friends alike were stunned when Jordison’s death at the age of 46 was confirmed by his family on Tuesday night, with no cause yet revealed.

Jordison’s death comes a decade after the passing of his bandmate and fellow founding member of Slipknot, Gray, who died of an overdose of morphine and fentanyl aged 38 in 2010.

On Monday, a week after Jordison’s death, Taylor took to the photo-sharing app and posted a grainy picture of himself with Jordison and Gray, all posing for a photo while sitting down together in a venue.

Posted with no accompanying caption, fans were quick to share their sympathies with Taylor as he mourned the loss of two friends and former colleagues.

‘Paul & Joey, damn,’ wrote one, while another commented, ‘I’m sorry Corey, my condolences & love. Stay strong 💪’

One follower shared: ‘They were both amazing people, and they gave so much to the world. RIP.’

The pair founded Slipknot in 1995 alongside Shawn Crahan, also known by his stage persona ‘Clown’, with Taylor joining in 1997 as lead vocalist to replace Anders Colsefini and and become the sixth of the band’s nine members.

Jordison’s family said in a statement on July 27: ‘We are heartbroken to share the news that Joey Jordison, prolific drummer, musician and artist passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 26th, 2021.

‘Joey’s death has left us with empty hearts and feelings of indescribable sorrow. To those that knew Joey, understood his quick wit, his gentle personality, giant heart and his love for all things family and music.’

On Friday, the band officially addressed the loss, after turning their social media channels black, sharing a statement that read: ‘Our hearts go out to Joey’s family and loved ones at this time of tremendous loss.

‘Joey Jordison’s art, talent, and spirit could not be contained or be held back. Joey’s impact on Slipknot, on our lives, and on the music that he loved, is incalculable.’

It concluded: ‘Without him there would be no us. We mourn his loss with the entire Slipknot family. We love you, Joey.’

A tribute video was also posted on the band’s official YouTube account.

Jordison left the band in 2013, which Slipknot said in an official statement was for personal reasons, but he later claimed he was fired and that his bandmates had confused his medical issues with a substance abuse problem, after he was diagnosed with transverse myelitis.

Transverse myelitis is a neurological disorder which causes an inflammation of both sides of the spinal cord, which interrupts the messages that the spinal cord nerves send throughout the body.

During Jordison’s time with Slipknot, the band were nominated for seven Grammy awards, winning best metal performance for Before I Forget in 2006.

After leaving Slipknot, he formed a new band, Scar the Martyr, in 2013, which was disbanded three years later.

He was also a guitarist for Murderdolls and was playing with metal band Sinsaenum before his death.

After Gray’s death in 2010, Slipknot held a conference, without wearing their trademark masks, in which Crahan paid tribute to him as ‘a really great friend and just a great person’.

‘He’s going to be sadly missed, and the world is going to be a different place without him.’
