If there’s one thing everyone knows about Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) in Coronation Street it’s that he’s a schemer. From the moment he returned he set about creating a cunning plan to try and split Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) and Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) up and low and behold, despite the plan being full of drama, it worked.

Billy and Paul have now split up, which gives Todd the perfect opportunity to worm his way back into Billy’s life, and eventually get back with him.

But with Paul still clearly living in Weatherfield and both him and Billy being totally unaware of Todd’s scheming, there’s every chance the truth could be revealed, and as Gareth Pierce recently explained, his character’s deception could be exposed at any time:

‘That is tied in with the fact that he knows he has gone a bit too far and has shocked himself a little bit with the consequences of his actions. The audience have seen some of that and his realisation of how hurt Paul was. So he does have the worry that it all could come back to haunt him.

It is in the back of his mind now that as much as it might get him where he wants to be there is a creeping sense of doom hanging over him that he hopes he won’t be found out.’

There hasn’t really been a moment where Todd hasn’t been planning something since his return to Weatherfield. Whether it’s trying to con someone or taking his plan to win Billy back to the next level, Todd has very much hit the ground running and according to Gareth, viewers will start to see more from Todd soon and why he chooses to manipulate people in the way that he does:

‘I feel as though there is now an opportunity to show a little bit more what his motivation is for some of his actions. Whereas we have seen more of his manipulations and his scheming since he has been back, we need possibly now to see a bit more of why he is doing that, it is in a twisted kind of way coming from a place of love.

We will hopefully start to see the mask slipping a little bit now because the viewers need that to some extent to realise he is human and is hurt in his own way and that he is vulnerable to.’
