Miley Cyrus came over all emotional as she sang her hit Wrecking Ball while performing during a tailgate gig ahead of the Super Bowl 2021.

The singer, 28, headlined the TikTok Tailgate in Tampa, Florida on Sunday night, where she treated the crowd to performances of tracks such as We Can’t Stop and Dolly Parton classic Jolene.

But, it was her rendition of Wrecking Ball that caught attention, as Miley was seen choking up and struggling to sing her way through the chorus of the song.

An emotional Miley was seen tearing up on stage towards the end of the song and saying mid-chorus: ‘It never gets easier,’ before later telling fans that her heart gets broken a lot.

According to People, Miley told the crowd: ‘Singing that song, Wrecking Ball, about feeling completely broken and shattered… everyone suffering is different, even everyone’s threshold of pain.’

‘I like to think I’ve got a pretty high tolerance, I wear a lot of glitter and I wear a lot of armour, and I also wear my heart on my sleeve,’ Miley explained, before confessing: ‘And for that, it gets broken a lot and a lot of us have been feeling broken this year.’

Fans were seen reacting to the moving moment on Twitter, with one tweeting that Miley – who is currently single after splitting from boyfriend Cody Simpson last year and divorcing ex-husband Liam Hemsworth in 2019 – got them ‘right in the feels’.

They wrote: ‘Miley Cyrus crying during her performance of Wrecking Ball today really got me in my feels.’

Another agreed: ‘Miley Cyrus crying while singing wrecking ball just a few moments ago… now that was A MOMENT.’

One fan watching posted: ‘I see Miley Cyrus is trending but no one is talking about how she cried during Wrecking Ball and said, “It never gets easier” and how that ruined me.’

Some of Miley’s performance had aired on CBS’ coverage of the Super Bowl 2021 over in the US and viewers could also tune in to watch via the NFL’s official account on TikTok.

It saw Miley take to the stage dressed as a cheerleader in a pink and black uniform, before she ditched her cheer gear for a football uniform instead.

The concert – attended by healthworkers who have had their coronavirus vaccine – also saw Miley perform with special guests, including music icon Billy Idol.

Miley and Billy performed Night Crawling together, with rocker Joan Jett joining Miley to sing Bad Karma and Bad Reputation.

Fans were living for Miley’s performance and many called for her to headline the Super Bowl halftime show in 2022 on social media.

This year’s halftime show headliner is The Weeknd, who has said no special guests will be joining him on stage at the Raymond James Stadium.

It’s also been revealed that The Weeknd has splashed out $7million (£5m) of his own cash on his performance in order to provide fans with a ‘cinematic’ experience.

He told Billboard ahead of taking to the stage: ‘We’ve been really focusing on dialling in on the fans at home and making performances a cinematic experience, and we want to do that with the Super Bowl.’
