The UK’s coronavirus death toll has passed 41,000 after another 245 people were confirmed to have died from Covid-19.
The figure, which includes deaths in hospitals, care homes and the wider community, now stands at 41,128.
NHS England recorded 88 new hospital deaths, while 12 people died in Scotland and nine in Wales across all settings. Northern Ireland had no new deaths for the fourth consecutive day.
Meanwhile, Boris Johnson has said the timing of lockdown ‘will need to be examined in the fullness of time’.He was pressed on the issue after Professor Neil Ferguson said that the UK’s death toll could have been halved if the country locked down a week earlier.
