Dancing On Ice judges Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean dabbed as part of their routine on tonight’s show… leaving fans bewildered over the inclusion of the contemporary dance move.
Just before co-presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield announced who would be in the dance-off, judges Torvill and Dean took to the ice to perform a ‘shadow dance’ alongside a pair of young skaters.
Skating to Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr’s Me and My Shadow, the four skaters brought a sense of fun to the rink, all dressed in waistcoat and trouser ensembles.
While viewers enjoyed the performance, some were taken aback when suddenly out of nowhere, Torvill and Dean executed a dab, a dance move that peaked in popularity a few years ago.
As many will be aware, dabbing involves raising one arm at a diagonal angle while ducking your head into your other arm, which is bent at the elbow and pointed in the same direction as the first.
‘Torvill and Dean did not just dab?’ one person asked on Twitter incredulously.
‘Lol did Jane and Chris really just dab,’ another said.
Someone else stated: ‘I cannot believe I have just witnessed Torvill and Dean dab on national television. I am officially quitting ice dance.’
Meanwhile, another person wasn’t just taken aback by their dabbing, but the fact that it happened several years after dabbing was a craze.
‘Did they just dab in 2021?’ they asked.
Several people praised Torvill and Dean on their performance, which looked as effortless as ever, decades after they retired from competitive skating.
‘Torvill & Dean are 63 and 62 years old respectively. I was out of puff just watching them. Amazing,’ one person said.
‘@torvillanddean never disappoint. Loved your routine so much,’ another commented.
Matt Richardson became the latest celebrity to be eliminated from the competition, having only just been announced as a replacement for comedian Rufus Hound this week.
A number of Dancing On Ice fans found it ‘unfair’ that he was eliminated, with some saying he should have been given a free pass for his first week in the competition.
Dancing On Ice returns next Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
