Viewer’s of ITV’s Outbreak have been left fuming at the government’s handling of coronavirus after the documentary detailed the spread of the virus.

The one-off special, Outbreak: The Virus that Shook the World, documented the pandemic from its beginnings in Wuhan, China, to the present day.

It heard from health experts and people who have lost family members to the deadly virus, and documented the failures of various governments, including the UK and the USA.

Viewers have been left heartbroken at the scenes, and have questioned why action wasn’t taken earlier.

‘1st U.K. Covid case jan20! why did we not close borders and lockdown the same month?! So angry watching this #outbreak,’ one wrote.

‘Watching outbreak on itv, the UK Government should be held accountable for all the errors and the mess they’ve made of this pandemic,’ another said.

One more added: ‘Anyone watching #outbreak on ITV and just getting more and more livid at our government?!’

Another wrote: ‘I’m not surprised but still a shocking watch seeing it all squeezed into an hour watch. We have been let down by so many government leaders worldwide #outbreak #itv.’

The UK government issued a statement to ITV, shown at the end of the programme, saying it has taken advice from scientific and medical experts throughout the pandemic.

The nation is currently in its third lockdown, which is expected to last until mid-February at the very earliest.

On Tuesday, the UK recorded another record number of deaths from the virus, after 1,610 people died.

Vaccines are currently being rolled out to over-70s and the extremely vulnerable, with the government hoping to vaccinate 15 million high-risk people by February 15.
