This isn’t the Rusev Day we all hoped for.

The former WWE superstar – who proved popular with fans, with many feeling he never seemed to be truly given the opportunities he deserved – looks to be ‘done’ with wrestling just months after he was cut from the promotion.

In a recent Twitch stream, Rusev – who has been focusing on the platform and using it to broadcast his gaming since his release – suggested he has closed the door on his in-ring career.

According to Fightful, he said: ‘I’m done. I’m done, man. I’m just enjoying my Twitch. I’m a professional Twitcher, YouTuber, and content creator. I’m not a wrestler anymore. Can I be your favorite streamer?’

Fans will be hoping the former United States Champion – real name Miroslav Barnyashev – is just taking a break from the industry, or playing down his prospects to make an eventual appearance more of a surprise.

During his career, the so-called Bulgarian Brute captured the US Title on three occasions, with one of those ending in defeat when he faced John Cena at WrestleMania 31.

Although his release didn’t come as a huge shock after he was kept off screen in the months leading up to his exit, there was still some disappointment from the WWE Universe.

However, Rusev has also now opened up – in a way – on his final exchange with Vince McMahon, although he didn’t reveal much besides the medium they communication through.

‘I texted Vince, I haven’t talked to him,’ he admitted. ‘I texted him, it was a nice conversation.’

With the suggestion that the two sides parted on relatively positive terms, there could be some hope for a return one day under the right circumstances, and stranger things have happened in the world of wrestling.

For now, though, it appears Rusev really is moving on.
