Eid al-Adha, sometimes also spelt Eid ul-Adha, the second Islamic holiday, has begun.

Eid al-Adha started last night and will continue until 3 August in honour of Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismael under Allah’s command.

The first major Islamic holiday is Eid al-Fitr, which means ‘Feast of breaking of the fast’, while Eid al-Adha means ‘Feast of the Sacrifice’.

As the holiday continues, here’s a list of wishes, prayers, Quran quotes and poems to mark the occasion.

How to wish someone a Happy Eid al-Adha

If you say ‘Eid Mubarak’ to someone, you’re wishing them a ‘Blessed Eid’.

Other longer prayers and well-wishing messages for Eid al-Adha include:

Sending you warm wishes on Eid and wishing that it brings your way ever joys and happiness. Remember me in your prayers.

May the magic of this Eid bring lots of happiness in your life and may you celebrate it with all your close friends & may it fill your heart with wonders. Eid Mubarak

May Allah’s blessings be with you today and always. Eid al-Adha Mubarak!

In every shared smile and laughter; In every silent prayer answered; In every opportunity that comes your way – may Allah bless you immensely! Eid Mubarak

Wishing that your prayers are answered and your sacrifices appreciated by the almighty. Eid Mubarak!

Quotes from the Quran

If the sea were ink for the words of my lord, the sea would surely be consumed before the words of my lord are exhausted (Al-Kahf 18:109)

The taking of one innocent life is like taking all of mankind… and the saving of one life is like saving all of mankind. (Quran, 5:33)

The good deed and the bad deed are not the same. Return evil with good (Surat Fussilat 41:34)
