Well, this would certainly make the wrestling calendar a crowded one in August.
We’re just a few weeks away from SummerSlam, but it’s been reported that WWE is planning another major event just seven days later.
As it stands, the company is holding the ‘biggest party of the summer’ on 23 August, and now WrestleVotes has claimed Payback will follow on 30 August.
With NXT also hosting TakeOver XXX the night before SummerSlam, this leaves fans with plenty to look forward to – although the gap before Payback doesn’t give Raw and SmackDown much time to build any fresh storylines.
It should be noted that this news follows Fightful’s report earlier this month that the promotion was looking to put on a WWE Network special event on August 30.
At the time, it was said internal talks were being held, and it was later revealed that the potential show was part of ‘optimistic-at-best’ plans, which also included the delayed return of live crowds.
Bearing this in mind, it could be that Payback – which was last held in 2017 – could be back as a Network special rather than a traditional pay-per-view.
As it stands, the company is yet to address the reports, and the event isn’t officially listed.
Currently, WWE is building towards SummerSlam itself, although just two matches have been confirmed thus far.
As well as The Viking Raiders defending their Raw Tag Team Titles against Angel Garza and Andrade, WWE Champion Drew McIntyre will be in action with his gold on the line against Randy Orton.
The annual extravaganza was originally set to take place in Boston, but it was recently confirmed this wouldn’t go ahead – and fans are still waiting on a further update on where the show will actually be held.
