Both Pedro and Willian are both concerned about signing short-term contract extensions to keep them at Chelsea until the end of the season as injuries could stop them finding a new club.
The Spaniard and the Brazilian are both out of contract at the end of June and are in a tricky situation regarding their future.
Neither appear likely to sign new deals to stay at Chelsea for next season and beyond, but with the Premier League season now running into July, their current contracts do not see them through all the fixtures.
Adam Lallana is out of contract this summer but has signed a short extension to keep him at Liverpool until the end of this season and Chelsea would like Pedro and Willian to do the same, but they are concerned that an injury picked up in July could see them struggle to find new employment for next season.
The Telegraph reports that the club and the players are stuck in limbo with the situation ahead of the Premier League getting back underway next week.
Chelsea have three fixtures scheduled before the end of June – away to Aston Villa and home against Manchester City in the Premier League and an FA Cup quarter-final against Leicester City – which the two players would be available for whatever happens with their contracts.
Pedro is fully expected to leave the club this summer, but Willian’s future is less clear as Chelsea want to keep hold of him, but negotiations over a new contract have been unsuccessful.
The Brazil international wants a new three-year deal, but at 31 years old, the Blues are only willing to offer him two more years at Stamford Bridge.
Given the uncertainty of the situation as the coronavirus crisis continues, he may be persuaded into the two-year agreement, but he will have other options as Arsenal and Tottenham have shown an interest in him.
Willian has been a regular under Frank Lampard this season while Pedro has struggled for game time and competition for places will be all the more fierce next season with the impending arrivals of Hakim Kiyech and Timo Werner.
