Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has aired his concerns over the conduct of Manchester United transfer target Jadon Sancho.
The England international has enjoyed another reputation enhancing season in the Bundesliga and reportedly has his mind set on departing this summer and returning to the Premier League.
United have made the former Manchester City winger their primary target and although they are reluctant to meet Dortmund’s asking price, which is likely to remain in excess of £100million despite the financial ramifications of the coronavirus pandemic, they will actively pursue signing the 20-year-old having lost out to Chelsea for the services of Timo Werner.
Despite his eye-catching performances on the pitch, Sancho has courted controversy off it this season. He was left out of the side back in October after he arrived back late from international duty and was fined by the DFL for contravening social distancing protocols earlier this month and subsequently publicly criticised the German football association.
Sancho was told to ‘grow up’ by former Liverpool star and current teammate Emre Can last week, while Zorc has conceded Dortmund’s prize asset is not always easy to handle.
‘Jadon is not only an exceptional footballer who is noticeable on the pitch but now and then also outside of the pitch,’ he told SportBild. ‘Sometimes it’s not easy for us.’
Last week Solskjaer admitted he would be wary of adding any ‘rotten apples’ to his squad this summer and risk destabilising the harmony he has created in a squad which had embarked on an 11-game unbeaten run prior to the season being suspended.
‘I did feel that I was professional and did feel privileged to play for Manchester United,’ Solskjaer said in an interview with the ShivNadarFoundation. ‘I wouldn’t be able to look at myself if I didn’t know I’d given everything for my teammates and my manager.
‘That’s what I also now look for in players that we sign or we bring up from the youth team. You have to have a good personality and that you are professional because one rotten apple in the basket will make the others rotten.
‘So for me it’s about building a team that will reflect me and my coaching staff’s personalities and views. Of course there are standards because we want to win. We are in the business to win.’
