Vikings star Amy Bailey has finally explained why she quit the show during the fourth season.

The 44-year-old played the controversial character Queen Kwenthrith, who ended up being stabbed to death by Judith (Jennie Jacques) while holding the king of England hostage.

But it turns out she had good reason to walk away from the History Channel hit, as she recently revealed how she had fallen pregnant with twins.

When chatting on the podcast Beauty Is Eternal, the actress said: ‘We found out the show was being renewed for season four, and I called Michael [Hirst] and the producers.

‘And I was just like: “I’m pregnant with twins – what should we do?”‘

Explaining how the talked about her character’s arc, she added: ‘It made sense because, I knew I couldn’t… there’s no way I could have had the babies and come back on the show.

‘It wouldn’t have [worked]. And that’s what happened! I had the babies and I didn’t work for at least six months.’

The star beamed: ‘So yeah, we just decided it felt right.’

While she might have left the show over two seasons ago, she sure made her mark, seeing her son Magnus stir up all the trouble later on down the line when claiming to be a son of Ragnar.

‘There was a sex scene, but Travis and I, we kind of talked them into cutting that out,’ she said. ‘We thought it would be more interesting because people don’t know if Magnus is his or not.’

The actress went on: ‘I mean, I know the answer, but it’s like is he or isn’t he, which is an interesting thing.

‘Originally we had all these sex scenes and we were like let’s make it more mysterious and a more interesting relationship.’

Vikings is set to return to Amazon Prime and the History Channel later this year.
