Doctor Who star Mandip Gill has confirmed that the hotly-anticipated Christmas special hasn’t been delayed due to coronavirus and it seems it will broadcast as planned later this year.
The actress, who plays one of Jodie Whittaker’s companions, revealed that the cast had luckily already filmed the episode titled Revolution Of The Daleks.
‘I can confirm that [it’s already been shot],’ Gill said.
‘There is a festive episode. We happened to be quite lucky and fit it in, so that will be exciting,’ she added to EW.
The Christmas special was announced back in March after the show’s climactic series 12 finale.
Showrunner Chris Chibnall enthusing: ‘We can’t leave the Doctor there! On that cliffhanger! Well, we did. But rest assured, the Doctor and her friends will be back for a one-off extended Special around Christmas and New Year.
‘I don’t know when they’re going to put it on yet, otherwise we’d tell you! There will be Daleks. There will be exterminations. Thrills, laughter, tears. You know. The usual. See you at the end of the year.’
Echoing a similar sentiment, Charlotte Moore, director of content at the BBC, added: ‘I can’t wait for the Doctor to go into battle with the ultimate enemy in this year’s Daleks festive special.’
Gill recently teased that the special is ‘brilliant’ and honestly, this is probably going to make our year.
Doctor Who is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
