Coronavirus news live: UK death toll reaches 40,883 and zoos, safari parks and outdoor cinemas can re-open from next week

The UK’s death toll from coronavirus now stands at 40,883 after another 286 people died from the virus.

As of 9am on June 9 5,870,506 people have been tested for Covid-19, with with 102,930 tests on June 8. The number of people who have tested positive is 289,140.

Meanwhile, zoos, safari parks and drive-in cinemas can reopen in England from June 15 in the latest move to relax coronavirus lockdown.

Boris Johnson will announce the new easing of restrictions on Wednesday as he tries to reopen the economy while minimising Covid-19’s rate of transmission.
