Coronavirus news live: Daily death toll continues to slow and more than 600,000 UK workers lost their jobs during lockdown

The UK’s official death toll from coronavirus stands at 41,736 after another 38 people were confirmed to have died with the virus on Monday.

The latest figures, released by the Department of Health yesterday consist of deaths in all settings, including care homes.

Meanwhile, more than 2,400 people have signed a petition calling for Bicester Village to close after hundreds of eager shoppers crowded into the centre yesterday when shops were given the green-light to reopen.

Customers were urged to adhere to social distancing measures, which require people to remain at least two metres away from anyone not in their household, but photos from the designer retail outlet in Oxfordshire, showed groups of people standing close together as they waited to get inside shops.

Elsewhere, a Primark worker described the first day of reopening as ‘hell.’
