Tesco is piloting a scheme which will see it hire out office space in its stores. Client meetings and emails will “be picked up alongside a pint of milk and a box of eggs” under a new deal between the supermarket giant and flexible office operator IWG, said The Guardian. Later this month, a 3,800 sq ft area within Tesco’s New Malden supermarket will be offered up, with space for 12 private desks, 30 co-working spots and a meeting room.
St Ives to charge visitors to use loos
A Cornish town plans to start charging tourists and the owners of holiday homes to use its eight public lavatories, while full-time residents can continue to make use of the facilities for free. The Telegraph said the move by St Ives is “the latest display of hostility towards wealthy summer dwellers”, who are accused of pricing locals out of the area. It is expected that residents will be given a pre-payment card or access code to use the public lavatories.
Rookie lands plane after pilot falls ill
A search is underway in Florida for a mystery passenger who landed a plane after the pilot passed out. CNN said an unidentified man’s voice was heard in public flight recordings telling the airport tower that he had “no idea how to stop the airplane”. An air traffic controller who helped guide the man down to Palm Beach International Airport met him on the tarmac for a hug, but the pair did not exchange names. The pilot was transported to hospital by Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.
