Spotify has become one of the leading ways of accessing the music you love – with over 170m subscribers to its Premium service as of the first half of 2021.
The streaming platform not only gives you unlimited access to your favourite songs and artists but also keeps giving us little treats – such as the Only You feature which debuted earlier this year, as well as the much-anticipated Spotify Wrapped.
But if you’re one of those people who likes to know what your chosen artists are singing about – or if you just want to sing along yourself – just where on Spotify can you find the words to your favourite songs?
Here’s what you need to know about accessing lyrics on Spotify.
How do you get lyrics on Spotify?
Here’s the bad news – lyrics are currently not widely available on Spotify, although there is a way you can get them for selected songs.
To do so, you’ll need the Genius song lyrics app, and you’ll need a free account with them.
To see lyrics from the songs that are included, you simply tap the ‘now playing’ bar at the bottom of the screen on your phone or browser – or, if you’re using a tablet, tap the album artwork in the side menu.
Scroll down the screen to see the song’s lyrics and history, and you’re all set!
You should note though that not all songs have song lyrics available – and if you don’t see the lyrics or other information appear at the bottom of the screen, they’re not available for the song you’re listening to.
However more songs are being added to Genius all the time – so keep checking back to see if your favourite is among them.

This playlist can be found here – and currently features over 4,300 songs.
As an alternative, the Musixmatch app can also be synced to your Spotify account, allowing you to look up lyrics of songs you’ve played via its app or website – simply set up an account and choose the ‘connect to Spotify’ option when prompted.
Bear in mind though that this will cost you – a premium subscription to the site is £35.99 a year.
