Line of Duty scooped three big prizes at the The TV Choice Awards on Monday night.
Hosted by Rob Beckett, the ceremony was streamed virtually once again due to the coronavirus pandemic, and saw the BBC drama score a hattrick.
Line of Duty won best drama series while the show’s stars Martin Compston and Vicky McClure took home acting gongs.
Writer Jed Mercurio used his acceptance speech to express how much the awards mean: ‘Everyone involved in Line Of Duty is absolutely thrilled to be recognised in this way by the viewers and readers of TV Choice, it means an enormous amount to us and we couldn’t be more grateful,’ he said.
‘It wouldn’t be the show it is without the amazing performances of Vicky, Martin, Adrian [Dunbar] and our brilliant guest leads including Kelly Macdonald and all the other brilliant guest leads we’ve had.’
He ended by saying: ‘They’re the guys who actually do it on camera so it’s definitely a tribute to them.’
Star Martin said on social media he was ‘chuffed to bits’ with his win.
He said: ‘Chuffed to bits to @tvchoicemagazine best actor! Thank you to everybody who took the time vote for me, for Line of Duty and for best drama and the one and only @vicky.mcclure for best actress! Been a cracking few days team.’
The critically-acclaimed drama also won the best drama series award in 2019.
Line of Duty first hit screens in 2012 and has gone on to become one of TV’s most popular dramas.
The series follows the police’s anti-corruption unit AC-12 also won the same gong in 2019, and amassed 12.8m viewers earlier this year, as the nation waited eagerly for the infamous ‘H’ to be unmasked.
Another big winner of the night was Coronation Street, also scooping up three awards.
The soap, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in December, celebrated a second hattrick in a row.
The Tony Warren created series took home best soap, best actor and best actress, the same three big gongs as last year.
David Neilson, who has played Roy Cropper since 1995, took home best soap actor, while Sally Carman scored best soap actress for her performance following the death of her on-screen son, Seb Franklin.
Other winners include Bridgerton, which won best new drama and Call The Midwife which won best family drama.
Ant and Dec also won their 16th consecutive TV Choice Award for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! As they bagged best reality show.
However, the Geordie duo were beaten by Gogglebox, which won best entertainment show for the fourth time over Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.
This Morning picked up its eighth best daytime show award while James Martin scored his first best food show trophy for Saturday Morning.
