It has certainly been an unusual August this year, with blistering sun one minute and torrential downpours the next.

But there’s still hope it can end on a high note with the traditional August bank holiday weekend.

Will it be an opportunity to break out the barbie? Or will it be another case of don’t forget your brolly?

Here’s everything you need to know about the last long weekend of summer 2021.

When is the August bank holiday in 2021?

This year the August bank holiday falls on Monday, August 30. That means the weekend itself starts on Saturday, August 28.

That’s only in England, Wales and Northern Ireland though, as Scotland had its summer bank holiday on Monday, 2 August.

What’s the weather forecast for the August bank holiday?

A decent spell of high pressure is expected to arrive late August, bringing with it sunny skies, higher temperatures and the slight chance of a heatwave.

Settled weather is more likely in the south, with more changeable and unsettled weather towards the north of the UK.

According to the Met Office though, some spells of heavy rain and thunderstorms are possible at times.
