Hugh Jackman still ‘done’ with Wolverine in face of Marvel’s multiverse – but would like you to tell Ryan Reynolds

Hugh Jackman has spoken on his future within the Marvel Cinematic Universe now the multiverse has been cracked wide open, confirming that for him, ‘it’s done’ – but he’d love Ryan Reynolds to accept that.

Since the end of Loki’s first season saw chaos reign as multiple conflicting timelines were initiated, and with the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home welcoming back past villain actors Alfred Molina and Jamie Foxx – as well as potentially Tobey Maguire as his version of the Peter Parker superhero – all bets are off as to who can appear how, when and where.

Speaking to Jake’s Takes about if there’s an angle that could tempt him to Marvel Studios again, Hugh, 52, joked: ‘Well, the fact that I’m hearing about this from you, and there’s nothing in my inbox from Kevin Feige means it’s probably, no matter what idea I came up with, not on the table. Let’s just be clear there.’

Recounting his approach to playing the mutant last time around, for 2017’s Logan, which provided a full stop to his 17-year journey with the iconic X-Men character, Hugh confirmed that he had felt ‘this is it’.

‘And that really helped me, it really helped knowing I was going into my last season, that it was my last season [and] that I made the most of it,’ he continued.

‘It’s still a character I hold close to my heart. But I know it’s done.’

He then threw an amusing plea out to the world as he added: ‘Tell that to whoever you want, but please tell it to Ryan. Because he’s like, he doesn’t believe it and he thinks I’m joking – please.’

Hugh and the Canadian actor, 44, enjoy friendly banter on social media, which has even involved K-Pop band Stray Kids star Bang Chan as Ryan bid to be his ‘new favourite Australian’ over Aussie native Hugh.

Their ‘feud’ dates back as far as 2008, when they filmed X-Men: Origins together, with Hugh joshing Ryan about his then-new wife, and Hugh’s close friend, Scarlett Johansson, before Ryan got more into it via his wise-cracking Deadpool alter ego.

Since then, shenanigans aplenty continue – although Ryan may temporarily be distracted by his blossoming Mariah Carey fandom.
