Anthony Mackie is reportedly going to wield the shield once more in Captain America 4.
The film, apparently a Marvel project, will see him take the lead as Sam Wilson, the superhero formerly known as Falcon.
Fans discovered that Sam would be taking on the title of Captain America in Avengers: Endgame, when Cap (Chris Evans) handed over his shield.
The character then starred in Disney+ spin off Falcon and the Winter Soldier opposite Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, the titular solider.
Anthony is said to have struck a deal to lead the fourth Cap movie, according to Deadline, with a director yet to sign up. The screenplay will reportedly be penned by Malcolm Spellman, the lead writer and showrunner of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and writer Dalan Musson.
It is unknown at this point what the storyline will be or whether Sebastian will return as Bucky.
The Hurt Locker star has played Sam for five films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with Captain America: The Winter Solider.
The actor previously spoke of the ‘daunting’ task of taking over from Evans’ Cap.
‘With the idea of being a black man and becoming Captain America, it’s been a daunting task because I think, at this day and age in America, I think we are open-minded to the idea of having my face represent us, as a country,’ he said last year.
‘And my race represent us as a country because we’re truly a melting pot. So there is no distinctive look or feel or design of an American. We’re all Americans.’
