The Last Leg guest Rosie Jones has hit out at the government over the implementation of ‘Freedom Day’ next week, saying that ‘it’s f**king scary’ as restrictions are lifted in England.
On Monday July 19, the final stage of lifting Covid-19 restrictions is to take place in England, on a day dubbed by some as ‘Freedom Day’.
While the day is currently going ahead as planned, Prime Minister Boris Johnson recently emphasised that it is ‘absolutely vital that we proceed now with caution’, stating that the pandemic ‘is not over’.
On the latest episode of Channel 4’s The Last Leg, comedian Rosie gave her two pennies’ worth over the situation, expressing her fear over the easing of coronavirus guidelines amid rising cases.
She stressed that throughout the pandemic ‘time and time again’ in between lockdowns, positive Covid-19 cases have increased, ‘and boom, we’re in another lockdown’.
‘So now what is going to happen on Monday is bloody idiotic and our government, they’re not idiots, it’s bigger than that. It’s f**king scary. And I am terrified,’ she said.
Adam Hills pointed out the irony of the government ‘telling us that we need to be responsible’ and ‘telling us to use our common sense’, using the England football fan who stuck a flare up his backside ahead of the Euro 2020 final as an example.
One Last Leg viewer tweeted that Rosie is ‘feeling the way a lot of us feel about the reduction in #Covid_19 restrictions’, adding in a hashtag that they are ‘f**king terrified’.
‘Absolutely @josierones. The UK is full of morons that don’t use their common sense,’ another said.
Someone else praised Rosie for ‘telling it as it is’, while another viewer tweeted: ‘The public cannot be trusted to use common sense as we started this pandemic fighting each other over toilet roll.’
Piers Morgan recently hit out against the so-called ‘Freedom Day’, tweeting that it’s ‘so dumb when the pandemic is still raging hard and the UK’s now got [the] highest number of new daily cases in the world’.
When one Twitter user pointed out that he had been at Wembley for the Euro 2020, branding him a ‘hypocrite’, Piers explained that it felt ‘safe and Covid compliant’ until the moment that ‘1000s of drunken morons crashed their way in with no tickets or testing’, which he believes ‘probably turned it into a huge super-spreader event’.
The Last Leg is available to watch on All 4.
