If there’s one thing we’ve come to learn about Emmerdale’s Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry), it’s that she’s always got her loved ones’ backs whenever they need it!
The soap stalwart has offered support to many a villager over the years, and this week, viewers saw her voice her concern for April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan), whose behaviour has dramatically changed in recent weeks.
April, as fans know, has been targeted by online trolls, after she set up an online grief group in the wake of Leanna Cavanagh’s (Mimi Slinger) death.
Her intentions were, of course, to offer support to those who need it, but vile trolls came out of woodwork and started to bully her.
Cathy and Heath have recommended that she keep her torment under wraps, claiming it will all soon die down, but dealing with this on her own is negatively impacting April.
Rhona, knowing full well that something is not right, suggests to April that they spend some girl time together, in the above scene taken from next Tuesday’s (July 27) episode.
April, however, wants to hang out with Cathy and Heath! Having received a new notification, the young girl shows her pals’ that the trolls have created a ‘dead Donna’ account, named after her mum.
Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock), meanwhile, discovers his daughter’s online trauma later in the week, and he can’t help but feel guilty.
‘There’s a long build up,’ actor Mark told Metro.co.uk. ‘[Marlon is] seeing changes in her behaviour, seeing her more downcast, more reluctant to go to school which I think are all classic traits of this.
‘He can’t put his finger on it, and he and Rhona make mistakes about why it might be happening. She tells cover stories for it as well.
‘And then at some point or other, he and Rhona overhear Heath and Cathy talking about it in the pub and he confronts then, and that’s when to his abject horror, he finds out what’s been going on.’
He added: ‘He tries to be as gentle as he can be,’ continued Mark. ‘He can’t believe the abuse she has been getting is about Donna, the worst of it is all related to her dead mother.
