Chelsea have identified Stuggart’s Sasa Kalajdzic as a potential signing this summer after experiencing difficulty in their bid to sign Dortmund ace Erling Haaland.
The Blues are keen on signing the Norway international this summer and feel they are best placed to do so, given so many clubs are waiting until 2021 when Haaland is available for just £62m due to a clause in his contract.
Chelsea are willing to spend far more than that on Haaland this summer but Dortmund seem intent on keeping the former RB Salzburg man for another season and are under no pressure to sell after they raised £73m through the sale of Jadon Sancho, which will go through this week.
Thomas Tuchel allowed Olivier Giroud to join AC Milan earlier this week and Tammy Abraham is also likely to depart.
It means Chelsea will lose that physical presence up front but the Athletic claim Tuchel is keen to replace those two with Kalajdzic.
The 6ft7 forward impressed for Austria at the European Championships but he’s valued at around £34m by the Bundesliga club, which may prove too high for Chelsea who would use him as back-up.
The 24-year-old joined the club 18 months ago and hit 17 goals in his first full season in the Bundesliga, which has alerted Chelsea.
Danny Ings, the Southampton striker, is touted as another option.
The former Liverpool man has 12 months to run on his contract on the south coast but he’s intimated he will not sign an extension as he’s keen on joining a Champions League club.
