Love Island’s Aaron Francis initially turned down an offer to appear on the ITV2 dating show after being approached by bosses.

The 24-year-old luxury events host is one of the 11 singletons headed into the Majorcan villa when the new series launches on Monday, but originally thought his schedule wouldn’t allow for the stint on the programme.

‘I was approached,’ Aaron told Metro.co.uk. ‘I was messaged on Instagram. To be fair, I wasn’t really thinking about the show because I was away. I was in the Middle East and I thought I was going to be there for months.

‘When I got the message, I actually said thanks but I’m away for three months so I don’t think I’ll fit.’

Aaron said that the producers went through the process with him and pointed out that as he would be returning to the UK in April, he could squeeze the series in.

‘I was just like alright, let’s just see what happens,’ he added.

Aaron’s siblings are excited to see him in the villa, but he admits that his parents haven’t really watched the programme before.

‘We watched a couple of episodes and we watched the Ovie [Soko] documentary to show them what it’s like and the benefits,’ he continued.

‘My parents know I’m sensible and I’m not going to do stupid stuff… they just said “don’t embarrass me”.’

Aaron joins a Love Island line-up that covers the whole spectrum, including the show’s first disabled contestant.

Laura Whitmore will be returning to present the series while her partner Iain Stirling will be narrating all the antics.

Love Island kicks off on Monday at 9pm on ITV2.
