Coronation Street legend Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) comes face-to-face with tormentor Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor) in court next week.

The stalwart of the ITV soap has been in hiding for months, after she worked with the police to get the drugs baron arrested.

Harvey, however, has went out of his way to get Leanne to pull out of the impending court case, sending aunt Sharon Bentley (Tracie Bennett) to the cobbles to smoke her out.

Fearing for the lives of her nearest and dearest, Leanne told Harvey that she would decline to give evidence on court, and she returns to the cobbles this week, which leaves DS Glynn worried that Harvey has got to her.

Next week, things become quite tense, when Harvey, fearing that Leanne will go back on her word, sends one of his heavies to the street to intimidate her.

And a gun showdown ensues, as Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and Sam Blakeman’s (Jude Riordan) lives are put a risk!

But will Leanne do as she’s told in the wake of this incident? Or will she decide to do the right thing and give evidence?

‘In the scenes with the gunman on the street you see a real shift in how she feels about it all,’ actress Jane Danson told Metro.co.uk

‘She thinks this will never end unless she stops it now. She is terrified and trying to do her best, but she doesn’t know if telling the truth or lying is the best thing or not.

‘I suppose it will be how she feels on the day.’

The day in court arrives later in the week, as Leanne takes the stand, and comes face-to-face with sinister Harvey.

‘That’s a lightbulb moment,’ said Jane, teasing the tense courtroom scenes.

‘She’s already lost a child and been through the worst thing that is ever going to happen so what could be worse than that? That’s when we see her strength forming again and she becomes a little bit of the old Leanne, which I always love!

‘Obviously shes been through it with Oliver and that was intense in terms of acting, they were the best scripts I’ve ever had and she still kept that strength which I really loved.

‘She might not have made right decisions at times, but I love they stayed true to that inner Battersby.

‘She’s grown up and is a lot more sensible than she used to be but the writers always remember where she’s from and I’m really keen to keep hold of that. We see old Leanne twinkling in the eyes at the court.’

These Coronation Street episodes will be available to stream on ITV Hub w/c Monday June 21.
