Arsenal have begun talks over the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Andre Silva, according to reports.
The Gunners are keen to bolster Mikel Arteta’s attacking options this summer and are looking to bring in a new forward.
And according to The Transfer Window podcast, Arsenal have expressed their interest in securing a deal for Silva before the window shuts.
The report claims that Arsenal have already begun work on the deal to bring the Portugal international to the Emirates Stadium but have told the striker that they need to sell before his signing can be completed.
It’s also claimed that Arsenal are looking to offload Alexandre Lacazette but are facing difficulty due to the 30-year-old’s salary, which is in the region of £200,000 a week.
Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt are holding out for a €40 million (£34m) transfer fee for Silva but it’s expected that the Bundesliga club will be forced to accept a lower figure.
Silva impressed for Eintracht Frankfurt this season as he finished second in the Bundesliga scoring table behind Robert Lewandowski.
The Portugal international netted 28 times for his club – which is one more league goal than Erling Haaland managed for Borussia Dortmund.
It’s understood that RB Leipzig are also interested in signing Silva but the striker’s preference is to move to a Premier League club.
Silva, who is in Portugal’s Euro 2020 squad, made his professional debut at Porto and has also had spells at AC Milan and Sevilla.
Speaking last month, Silva admitted that he is unsure whether he will remain at Eintracht Frankfurt for another season.
‘Nobody knows what will happen in the future,’ he said. ‘I live in the present and it feels very good right now.’
