Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah admits he’s ‘frustrated’ by a lack of first-team football at the Emirates.
The 21-year-old was named England’s U21s captain by Aidy Boothroyd this week ahead of the Three Lions’, with qualification for this summer’s tournament starting this week.
Arteta has spoken glowingly about Nketiah in the past but the striker has failed to make the Gunners’ last eight Premier League matchday squads and he’s played just one minute of league action since mid-January.
Nketiah admits it’s been a problematic period for him personally, though he’s happy to put his club issues to one side for his country.
‘It’s been a difficult last month or so. I haven’t played as much as I would have liked,’ said Nketiah.
‘I have been working hard and being dedicated which adds to the frustration but I have a great opportunity in front of me.
‘Aidy (Boothroyd) has been really good with me and has been checking in on me. I have a big tournament ahead of me. In life there are always opportunities in front of you.
‘The captaincy is a big responsibility. I’m grateful to have this opportunity, have fun and do my best to help the country achieve something special.’
