It’s the end of an era in Coronation Street tonight (January 18) as David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) and Gail Rodwell (Helen Worth) leave No.8 — and the eponymous street.

David sold No.8 to Ray Crosby (Mark Frost) last year, after the sinkhole appeared in his back garden and he couldn’t afford to get it fixed.

He believed that this was the right course of action, after Ray manipulated him into it.

Of course, the hotelier was simply out to benefit himself, as he desperately wanted his hands on No.8 — not to mention many other properties — for the purposes of his redevelopment project.

As a result, the Platts have to vacate the premises.

in tonight’s double-bill, David, Shona (Julia Goulding) and Gail pack up all of their belongings.

They’re evidently dreading the move, and Gail wastes little time in telling Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) that she feels too old to be slumming it on a rough council estate.

The question is: will Nick allow her to move in with he and Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan)?

Heartbroken, the Platts gather the last of their belongings, and take one final look round the house that they’ve called home for decades, before vacating the premises.

Is this the last time David and Gail will set foot in No.8?

Coronation Street continues Monday January 18 at 7:30pm on ITV.
