Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) telling Ken (William Roache) in Coronation Street he’s accepted he’s dying was a heart-breaking moment. After Peter found himself in hospital once more, the doctor told him his liver is failing and since then, Peter has been ignoring the pleads from his family and has continued to turn to drink.
With the Barlows desperate for Peter to change his ways, soon Carla (Alison King) takes a turn in trying to make him listen, and results to drastic action in an attempt to save him.
Sweating and shaking, Peter sits down and pens a letter to Simon (Alex Bain). He then tells Carla he’d like to draw a line under their feud, and he forgives her for sleeping with Adam (Sam Robertson).
Carla’s relieved but when she sees Peter’s notebook, she’s horrified to realise it’s a suicide letter to Simon.
Peter insists it’s not a suicide note, but a farewell letter as he’s come to accept that he’s dying.
On a mission, Carla drags Simon round to No.1 where to Peter’s horror, she reads out the letter.
Carla begs Peter to save himself before it’s too late, but will seeing Simon’s reaction to the letter allow Peter to realise he needs to stop drinking?
