It is no secret that although Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, it is also the most expensive.
Presents, Christmas food, and heating can add pressure to an already stretched budget.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced when people will receive their benefits over the festive period – and with three bank holidays coming up you may be paid a different date than usual, as benefits cannot be paid on these days.
So when will child benefits and Universal Credit be paid out over the holidays?
When will child benefits be paid over Christmas?
Child benefit is paid on either a Monday or Tuesday every four weeks – or weekly if you’re a single parent or you or your partner get certain benefits.
In England and Wales, if you are due to be paid on December 28 you will receive your money on December 24.
In Northern Ireland, people due on December 29 will be paid on December 30.
Meanwhile in Scotland, if you are due on January 4 then you will be paid on 31 December. If you are due to be paid on January 5 you will receive the money on January 6.
When will universal credit be paid over Christmas?
Universal Credit is paid into claimants’ accounts on the same date every month. That date will only change if it falls on a bank holiday or a weekend, in which case you are paid on the Friday before the due date.
This December, if your payment is due between December 24-28, you will receive your money on Christmas Eve.
