Someone’s made turkey and cranberry ice cream for Christmas

Christmas food is a magical thing.

Pigs in blankets, perfectly roasted potatoes, even Brussels sprouts – they’re all a delight.

Then there’s the sweet stuff, from Christmas pudding and mince pies to classic gingerbread.

Why not combine the sweet and savoury to capture the taste of Christmas in one mouthful?

That’s what Crieff Hydro Hotel and Mackie’s have decided to do, creating their very own ice cream… that tastes like turkey and cranberry.

Is this a good idea? We can’t say for sure. But it’s certainly inventive.

Richard Leckie, of the Leckie family who own Crieff Hydro Hotel, said: ‘This year has certainly been like no other so we are delighted to partner with Mackie’s, our ice cream partner, to bring a scoop of unique Christmas cheer to our visitors this year.

‘Turkey and cranberry ice cream is something I have certainly never tried before and I am sure it will capture the imagination of our visitors this Christmas.

‘It’s a great opportunity to bring something new to our festive season and who knows, turkey ice cream could become an annual festive tradition.’

It certainly could, though we’re not sure if we want it to.

For those who don’t fancy having their Christmas dinner and their dessert combined in one bite, the hotel is also serving up a more classic gingerbread crumble flavour ice cream.

We’ll probably go for that one, then.

The hotel is doing a bunch more festive bits, including reindeer on the tennis courts, a vintage bus bar serving Mackie’s hot chocolate (including the flavour of the year, chocolate orange), and a Gruffalo Trail.

The woodlands paths around the hotel will also be lit up with a nice archway of Christmassy lights.
