Elliot Page has announced that he is transgender in a heartfelt statement, on his social media pages.
The 33-year-old, formerly known as Ellen Page, was praised for his words, with his wife, Emma Portner, and a string of celebrities publicly sharing their support.
The actor has carved out an incredible career in Hollywood, having been in the industry since he was aged 10 – and has delighted fans on both the small and big screen.
As well as this, he has racked up award nominations for some truly captivating roles, most notably in Juno, The Umbrella Academy and Inception.
But what has Elliot starred in, and when?
What films has Elliot Page starred in?
Elliot has been in front of a camera for years, making his debut in CBC TV movie Pit Pony in 1997 – before nabbing his first feature film role five years later in Marion Bridge.
In 2005, he took on the role of Hayley Stark in Hard Candy, receiving critical acclaim for the portrayal of a teenager who keeps a paedophile hostage after luring him online.
He became a worldwide star in 2007 when he played the titular character in Juno, and was tipped for a string of awards, including an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a SAG.
The film followed teenager Juno MacGuff as she discovers she’s pregnant with her pal’s baby, before deciding to give the child up for adoption.
However, things take a turn when she realises the adoptive dad has developed feelings with her.
The flick went on to smash it at the box office, taking in $231million (£172m) worldwide, soaring Elliot to new levels of fame.
Following on from the success of Juno, the actor led the way in flicks The Tracey Fragments and An American Crime that same year.
Elliot delighted fans in Smart People, which premiered at Sundance in 2008, starring opposite Dennis Quaid, Sarah Jessica Parker and Thomas Haden Church in an A-List cast.
The next year, he had a brief but iconic cameo as Alaska Nebraska in The Simpsons, in the season 20 episode, Waverly Hills 9-0-2-1-D’oh – and is one of our favourite celebrity moments from the cartoon so far.
Who did Elliot Page play in Inception?
Elliot joined the star-studded cast alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Michael Caine, Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Christopher Nolan’s epic film Inception, in 2009, with the film being released the following July.
The mind-bending movie followed a team of ‘extractors’ – a group who bandied together to implant an idea in a target’s mind, by infiltrating their dreams.
He played architecture student Ariadne, who joined the team to help construct the mazes in the dreams.
Fans loved the film – and raved about Elliot and co – with Inception racking up nominations and wins at all the big award ceremonies.
Speaking of the types of projects he typically wanted to go for at the time, he told LA Times: ‘I want to do things that inspire me intellectually and artistically and to do things that excite my heart.
‘That’s the only way that works for me. If I did something else, I would just be really bad in it anyway.’
The actor followed this up with appearances in Super, Woody Allen’s To Tome With Love, and reclaiming his role as Kitty Pryde in X-Men: Days Of Future Past.
Was Elliot Page in Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy?
Elliot commanded a huge following in beloved Netflix series The Umbrella Academy, playing Vanya Hargreeves.
The show, written Gerard Way, sees a group of adopted superhero siblings, including Tom Hopper, Robert Sheehann and Aidan Gallagher, attempt to halt a global apocalypse while also coming to terms with their adopted dad’s death.
Elliot had an important LGBTQ+ love story in the second series, which dropped on the platform earlier this year, and he raved about how important this was for fans to witness.
Describing it as a ‘really exciting opportunity’, he said: ‘Especially since it takes place in the ‘60s, being able to show some of the obstacles at that time obviously in an era where it was illegal, considered a mental illness.’
What did Elliot Page say in his coming out statement?
Elliot shared a lengthy message on social media, which began: ‘I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot.
‘I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life.
‘I also ask for patience. My joy is real, but it is also fragile. The truth is, despite feeling profoundly happy right now and knowing how much privilege I carry, I am also scared. I’m scared of the invasiveness, the hate, the “jokes” and of violence.
‘To be clear, I am not trying to dampen a moment that is joyous and one that I celebrate, but I want to address the full picture. The statistics are staggering. The discrimination towards trans people is rife, insidious and cruel, resulting in horrific consequences.’
‘In 2020 alone it has been reported that at least 40 transgender people have been murdered, the majority of which were Black and Latinx trans women,’ he continued.
‘To the political leaders who work to criminalise trans health care and deny our right to exist and to all of those with a massive platform who continue to spew hostility towards the trans community: you have blood on your hands.
‘You unleash a fury of vile and demeaning rage that lands on the shoulders of the trans community, a community in which 40% of trans adults report attempting suicide. Enough is enough.
‘You aren’t being “cancelled,” you are hurting people. I am one of those people and we won’t be silent in the face of your attacks. I love that I am trans.’
‘And I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive,’ Elliot concluded.
‘To all trans people who deal with harassment, self-loathing, abuse and the threat of violence every day: I see you, I love you and I will do everything I can to change this world for the better.
‘Thank you for reading this. All my love, Elliot.’
What have the Umbrella Academy stars said about Elliot’s statement?

Meanwhile, Ben Hargreeves star Justin Min penned: ‘Love you so much.’
