The festive season is supposed to be filled with love, joy and happiness, but for the residents of Coronation Street, that’s not always the case.

There is plenty of sadness in Weatherfield this year, as Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) attempts to come to terms with the recent loss of son Oliver, while Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) is faced with a dilemma when he learns that Sam and Natasha are leaving Manchester.

What’s more, Gary Windass’ (Mikey North) crimes are finally exposed, as the police invesitgate Rick Neelan’s (Greg Wood) disappearance!

Meanwhile, other residents have plenty of reasons to smile and celebrate, as David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) and Shona Ramsey (Julia Goulding) reunite in a festive twist, as Toyah (Georgia Taylor) and Imran Habeeb’s (Charlie de Melo) fostering dreams come to true.

With the festive season almost upon us, here’s everything you’ve got to look forward to.

Leanne kicks Nick out — and spends Christmas alone?

Natasha decides that she and Sam are leaving Manchester and heading to London.

Sam wants to stay put, and therefore asks Nick if he can move in with he and Leanne, but Leanne informs Nick that he needs to be firm with Sam, and explain that he has to remain with his mum.

Nick does just that, as he calls Sam and explains that it’s not possible for him to move in, as the timing is all wrong.

Later in the week, Nick heads out to pick up Sam for a visit. Leanne is desperate to remain upbeat, and cooks them Christmas dinner, decorates a tree and wraps Sam’s presents — something which leaves Nick’s incredibly touched.

Nick assures Sam that he’ll visit him in London as often as he can and that they’ll do the museums together while he’s there.

However, Leanne later returns home to find Sam playing with Oliver’s musical box and she freaks out, which leaves Sam feeling guilty.

Leanne suggests that Nick rent a flat, and move Sam in, so that he can get to know his son properly — without having to worry about her.

She promises Nick that this isn’t the end of their relationship, but argues that it’s for the best.

The question is: is it really what she wants?

As Christmas Day arrives, Leanne hides away in her flat, consumed with grief.

David and Shona reunite

Shona Ramsey gives David a six foot cuddly rabbit to replace Barney, his childhood pet — and David loves it. However, Lily gets a jewellery bead stuck up her nose, and thus he and Shona set off for A&E.

Shona calms Lily down and makes her giggle as David watches with a heavy heart — realising just how much the kids will miss her,.

Having returned to the street, David and Shona approach Jenny’s drinks stall. However, Shona loses it when she spots newcomer Daisy being flirtatious with David and thus storms off.

David finds Shona in Victoria Garden and they finally clear the air, as they admit that they still love each other and want to make a proper go of things.

At No.8, David and Shona — with the help of Max and Lily — re-enact their wedding day. As the Platts exit No.8 and head out onto the eponymous street, the snow begins to fall and Shona stares up in wonderment. David gazes at his wife, his love for her renewed.

Maria discovers that Bernie found a watch in the woods and that Gary was desperate to get his hands on it. Therefore, she sets about confronting Gary, and thus demands to know all about Rick’s watch — and whether Rick’s dead!

Gary denies having any idea what she’s talking about, but Maria is not convinced.

Later, the police call at the salon flat and haul Gary in for questioning regarding Rick’s disappearance — much to Maria’s dismay.

The police reveal that they’ve found evidence that a body was buried in the woods and that it might have been that of Rick. Gary once again denies having any idea about such a thing, before assuring the officer that he knows absolutely nothing about Rick’s disappearance.

Maria discovers everything — and kicks Gary out!

Gary is let go due to a lack of evidence and Sarah is furious. Therefore, she wastes little time in railing at Gary

As they argue, little do they know that Maria has entered — just as as Sarah reveals that he’s the one that killed Rick. Horrified, Maria wastes little time in confronting Gary, and thus demands to know why Sarah would think that he’s a murderer.

Gary fails to come up with a plausible explanation, and therefore Maria not only threatens to call the police, but she also kicks him out!
