Vikings star Katheryn Winnick was thrilled to be nominated for a Critics Choice Super award for her work on History Channel hit.
The Canadian actress, who stars as strong shield-maiden Lagertha in the Emmy winning series, took to Instagram to express her shock at her inclusion in the shortlist for Best Actress in an Action Series.
Katheryn posted a still from the series, in which she’s dressed in a full suit of armour and carring a shield, alongside the caption: ‘WOW! Thank you Critics Choice Awards for the Best Actress nomination for Vikings.
‘After six years of blood, sweat and tears, I am extremely proud of this series and truly humbled by all the love and support for Lagertha. Thank you!’
Katheryn recently took home a Women’s Image Award for the series. She’s currently working on ABC’s kidnapping drama The Big Sky.
The 42-year-old faces stiff competition in the category from Angela Bassett (9-1-1), Snowpiercer’s Jennifer Connelly and Alison Wright, and Hanna’s Esme Creed-Miles and Mireille Enos.
Winners will be taking home the first ever Critics Choice Super awards, which will take place on Sunday January 10, 2021.
The organisation described the Super awards as ‘a special event honouring the most popular, fan-obsessed genres across both television and movies, including superhero, science fiction/fantasy horror, action and animation.’
Recipients will find out their fate in a remotely-produced television ceremony, airing on the American CW network, and following Covid-19 safety protocols.
Andy Samberg-led Hulu romcom Palm Springs leads the pack of nominations. J.K Simmons earned two nods for the film, for best villain in a movie and best actor in a science fiction/fantasy movie, and his co-star Cristin Millioti was shortlisted in the best actress in a sci fi/fantasy category.
HBO’s Lovecraft Country led the television nominations with a total of six, including best horror series and best actor and actress in a horror series for Michael K. Williams and Wunmi Mokasu respectively.
Critics Choice Association CEO Joey Berlin said: ‘What a celebration this is going to be! We are so pleased to be spotlighting the brilliant work of so many artists who bring to life some of the most engaging and beloved movies and television series.’
