Tyson Fury has sent a message of congratulations to Joe Joyce following his KO victory over Daniel Dubois on Saturday evening.
In an event contest at London’s Church House, Joyce registered the 12th win of his professional career in surprising circumstances as Dubois felt he could not continue in the 10th round due to an injury to his left eye.
Joyce’s jab had been a problem for Dubois throughout the fight and another left to the 23-year-old’s eye led to him taking a knee for the full 10 count.
Joyce, who walks away with the British, Commonwealth and European heavyweight titles, is now targeting Oleksandr Usyk as his next opponent.
And following his win, Fury congratulated the 35-year-old on Instagram.
The Gypsy King posted a photo of himself alongside Joyce with the message: ‘Massive congratulations to my bro Joe Joyce. Brilliant performance, great boxing display.’
Perhaps in nod to Joyce’s impressive chin and Dubois’ decision to take the knee in the 10th round, Fury added: ‘Boxing is a heart sport.’
Speaking after the fight, Dubois said: ‘He caught me with a job jab, his jab was accurate, I couldn’t see out of the eye. It just happens, man. I can’t explain it.
‘He just pinged it and I couldn’t see out of it, I was trying my best, it happens.’
Meanwhile, Dubois’ promoter, Frank Warren, revealed that Dubois had complained about possible nerve damage to his eye after the fight.
‘The eye was obviously a massive problem, you’ve just seen it, he couldn’t see out of it, it was what it was,’ Warren told BT Sport.
‘He [Dubois] said he felt the nerve, it [the pain] shot through him, and that was what it was.’
