The Masked Singer US have viewers looking for every hint and clue they can find to try and find out the identity of the stars beneath the elaborate costumes.

Most of the hints and references are made available from the clue packages, costume designer Marina Toybina explained how little clues about the celebrities are factored into the costumes.

However, there are a few references that are so subtle it is almost impossible to pick them up until the star is confirmed.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, the talented designer explained: ‘There have been moments where I’ve secretly incorporated certain elements that do show a little bit more of an insight of who is behind the mask.

‘The entire concept of the show is to give you just a little bit and then take away a lot so it does become that really unique guessing game. Some costume clues are right on the point where it’s like everyone knows who it is.’

She continued: ‘Then there are moments where I’ll watch the packages to see how they worked with the clues that are part of the details of the costumes. It all forces you to listen to the voice and makes you really pay attention to the details.

‘We work closely with our clue package team to try to figure out where the fine balance with the visual clues.’

Marina and the team went all out this season as they worked on their most complicated costumes yet like the Snow Owls and the Baby Alien.

She recalled: ‘The Snow Owls was the first time I’ve ever built a prop on top of building a costume and masks. We had to also fabricate the egg that they were in. While the Baby Alien was the first time we’ve ever done a puppet on the show

‘Those two designs were so intricate and so different, and we also tried to work in clues. Then there was the Serpent which was the first time I ever used those animatronics for the snakes behind them.

‘This is what I love about this show because I’m now dealing with this new world of special effects and it makes things even more enjoyable for the performance.’

The Masked Singer continues Wednesdays on Fox.
