Tess Daly shares rare photo of Vernon Kay and daughters as she ‘laughs and cries’ during I’m A Celebrity

Tess Daly was a proud wife watching husband Vernon Kay make his debut on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here last night, admitting she ‘laughed and cried’ during the episode.

TV presenter Vernon joined fellow celebrities such as Sir Mo Farah, Shane Richie and Beverley Callard at the Welsh castle on Sunday evening and managed to get through the first couple of trials without a hitch.

Strictly Come Dancing host Tess watched from home and took a snap of Vernon on the screen with the caption: ‘I was so excited tonight watching @vernonkay on @imacelebrity I took a picture of the TV! What a great show it was; laughed and cried already! And @antanddec brilliant fun.’

Tess had earlier shared a sweet throwback family photo of her and Vernon posing with their daughters Phoebe, 16, and Amber, 12. It’s a rare move as Tess and Vernon, who have been married for 17 years, typically keep their family life away from the public eye.

Before going into the I’m A Celeb camp, former Family Fortunes host Vernon revealed Tess fully supported him going on the show and was ‘100% behind [him]’.

He also said that he had been asked to take part in I’m A Celeb on several occasions in the past, adding that his and Tess’ daughters ‘always’ watch the show.

‘The deal was on the table last year and year before, but I had work commitments,’ he admitted.

‘I think 2020 has not been the best year, and that’s a massive understatement, and I just thought the timing was right, be it Wales or Australia, for me to give it a go.’

Vernon proved to be a great team player after helping his campmates get through the first two trials but he may be facing more as his presenter pal Paddy McGuinness recently joked that he’ll be spending a fortune making sure the TV star is always voted to do the trials.

I’m A Celebrity continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
