A policeman who scanned a barcode for carrots worth 7p to purchase a £9.95 box Krispy Kreme doughnuts has been sacked for gross misconduct. Although constable Simon Read told a disciplinary panel he had made an honest mistake at the self-service checkout of Tesco Extra in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, the panel found his version of events was “lacking in credibility”. Since the incident, the officer has received prank calls offering him doughnuts.
Amazon customers receive cat food instead of PS5
Amazon says it is “really sorry” after customers who had pre-ordered the new PlayStation 5 instead received deliveries of cat food, grills and foot massagers. Punters have resorted to social media to espress their disappointment at the mistaken deliveries.
Elvis impersonator arrested during livestream
An Elvis impersonator charged at police when they came to arrest him for an unrelated offence during a live-streamed gig. Dean Holland was delivering an online performance from his home in Leeds when police in face masks burst in. After lunging at one officer, Holland asked: “What the f***?” An officer tells him: “We've been trying to get in for 20 minutes.” An officer then tells him to “calm down” and Holland replies: “I am calm.”
