Piers Morgan slams Rita Ora for supporting NHS before breaking lockdown rules with 30th birthday party

Piers Morgan has branded Rita Ora’s lockdown rule-breaking 30th birthday party ‘absolutely shocking’ and points out that the singer openly supported the NHS during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Your Song singer was forced to apologise for hosting a ‘small gathering’ of friends at a West London restaurant on Saturday to celebrate her milestone birthday.

It broke lockdown restrictions as people are not allowed to gather indoors in England under the current measures, which end tonight, while groups larger than six are not allowed outside.

Reacting to Rita’s breach, Piers said on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday: ‘Her mother’s a health worker and then she launched a range of clothing, coronavirus clothing, saying ‘stop the spread’.

‘This is the same rita ora – the t-shirt says stop the spread and then she invites 30 of her friends.’

He added: ‘What does your mum think after all you said about the NHS? What you didn’t show is your friends sneaking out the back.

‘It’s exhausting keeping up with these people, it’s just so selfish.’

Rita issued an apology saying she was ‘deeply sorry’ and ‘embarrassed’ for the poor decision and also paid a voluntary £10,000 fine to the council.

Questioning Rita’s intentions behind the apology, Piers hit out: ‘She’s deeply sorry about this… really are you?

‘If they’re all doing that, if the rules aren’t for them then what’s the point of it?

‘You’re deeply sorry you were caught. If you hadn’t been caught would you issue a statement saying you’re deeply sorry?

‘It’s absolutely shocking.’

Susanna Reid shared her thoughts and pointed out: ‘Even when lockdown comes to an end it’s still against the rules.’

Despite his criticism of her, Piers said that Rita was a ‘perfectly nice person’.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
