If you were to list the most popular residents of Albert Square in order, you’d likely find Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) right at the bottom, below even the local traffic warden. And the EastEnders businessman is about to push one of his many enemies way too far and he is attacked and left to die.
But with so many people royally furious at the Beale, just who has taken a step further and left him lifeless in the Queen Vic?
After overhearing Rainie (Tanya Franks) and Stuart (Ricky Champ) talking to Tiffany (Maisie Smith) at the Vic, Ian spitefully lets slip that Tiffany is planning to be Rainie and Stuart’s surrogate in front of Whitney (Shona McGarty) who is horrified.
Meanwhile, Bobby (Clay Milner Russell) asks Ian for help with picking a winner for the Lucy Beale Award but he is too busy as usual while Suki (Balvinder Sopal) is still furious at Ian and plots against him.
Not a great start to the week all in all. But it worsens for the local schemer as he can’t help but upset others too – not least of all Max Branning (Jake Wood), who he spots sharing a kiss with Linda (Kellie Bright).
Ian gleefully warns Max that he now has the upper hand unless Max wants the whole Square to know about his kiss with Linda. Max leaves, fuming and plotting his revenge.
Tina (Luisa Bradshaw-White) pays a visit to Mick (Danny Dyer) and finds him despondent after his day at the care home. She thinks that he is down because he’s lost The Vic. Inspired to fix this for her brother, Tina starts on her mission to get Ian out of the Vic for good.
Bobby is preparing for the Lucy Beale Award night at The Queen Vic. Ian smugly tells Sharon (Letitia Dean) he has sorted Max and he won’t be selling the pub but ashe goes to the kitchen, Max takes his revenge then threatens Ian – give his money back or he’ll put him out of his misery.
Later when watching Sharon do the banking, an idea forms – what is Ian up to now?
It’s the day of the Lucy Beale Award Ceremony and it’s all hands-on deck. Bobby is struggling to decide who to give the award to but Ian tells Bobby he knows who Lucy would have picked to win. As Bobby gets up to present the award he makes a speech for his sister and Ian joins in, slightly taken aback.
Linda tells Mick she’s not going to the award ceremony and points out how he’s made her feel recently. Later, Max visits her at the laundrette and they head to The Vic together.
Still angry with Ian, Tina tells Shirley what she has done and they head to The Vic, eager to witness Ian’s downfall.
Later, the big announcement is a shock to everyone. Max is concerned as to why Ian is so smug but it seems Ian is having the last laugh as he explains what he has done.
Ben (Max Bowden) is also furious – no one wants to work with the Mitchells after someone grassed on them and he is determined to find out who it was.
Ian thinks he has outsmarted Max, but Max is seething and planning his revenge – how far will he go? Meanwhile, Ian is gloating about the Lucy Beale Award to Elliot from the Gazette hoping he will write a glowing article about him, when Ben appears, and he is also fuming. The police arrive and Ben presumes they are here to speak to him but it’s Ian they arrest.
Kathy (Gillian Taylforth) rushes to the station to help Ian but his son Peter (Dayle Hudson) isn’t as caring and tries to convince Bobby that Ian is in the wrong. Ian immediately blames Kathy for his arrest. Pushed too far now, Kathy serves him some hard truths. Has she finally had enough of her son’s behaviour? Peter explains to Bobby that they won’t be happy until Ian is gone. Bobby seeing sense in his brother’s words starts to see his dad for who he truly is.
Later, Rainie lashes out at Ian blaming him for Whitney putting doubts in Tiffany’s mind. Ian bites back with vengeance – Rainie is upset but Stuart has revenge in his eyes…
Tina tells Mick thathe can get the pub back but Mick lashes out at Tina –she clearly doesn’t understand what he is going through. Upset Tina leaves and heads in the direction of The Vic.
Later, all is still in The Vic, Ian lies motionless on the floor but just who attacked him?
