Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker has admitted she’s ‘devastated’ over Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole leaving the series.
The pair, who play Graham and Ryan, announced they will be leaving after two years, making their final appearance in the upcoming festive special, Revolution of the Daleks.
The Doctor actress Jodie, who’s staying on with Yaz actress Mandip Gill, admitted she was ‘absolutely devastated.’
‘Knowing it was the last scenes, myself with those actors, both of them had to carry me to my trailer. I’ve not cried like that for such a long time,’ she recalled.
‘Brad couldn’t cope with it at all, could he? And Tosin was like, “I really can’t cope with you getting so upset.” I think that sums up how I feel, there was not a sense of relief in any way.’
She joked: ‘And then I was like, “Don’t leave me with [Mandip]!”‘
The actress went on to say: ‘I felt incredibly bereaved about what this journey has been, because this started as us as well and that’s so unique. All of our journey has been together and been as a family, and we’ve clicked like a family.’
Mandip added: ‘I’m not really that sort of an emotional person but even I was a bit like, “This is really sad, I’ll never see you again – you’re so busy, Brad, always filming!”‘
Showrunner Chris Chibnall said of the pair’s exit storyline: ‘I can tell you that it’s very emotional, I can tell you that we’ve all been in tears watching it.
‘It’s a really important part of the mix of the special, where you get lots of thrills, lots of spills, lots of humour, lots of Daleks, and lots of emotion.’
‘I think we don’t shy away from what it means for this family to have its final moments together and it was emotional off-screen, it’s emotional on-screen,’ he continued.
‘I hope it feels like a good send-off for those two characters, whatever happens to them.’
Asked whether the door will be left open for them, Chris simply answered: ‘You’ll have to see, won’t you?’
Bradley and Tosin joined Doctor Who in 2018, first appearing in The Woman Who Fell To Earth, Jodie’s first full episode as the Doctor.
While fans will definitely be sad to see them go, the pair are set to have one final adventure, as they take on the Doctor’s most terrifying enemy in the festive special, Revolution of the Daleks.
Revolution of the Daleks will air over the festive period on BBC One.
