Roman Reigns and Jey Uso are on a collision course for Hell In A Cell – and the former Big Dog has promised the highest stakes in WWE history.

The Universal Champion started last night’s SmackDown as he strutted down to the ring with Paul Heyman by his side to be crowned the Tribal Chief of his family, WWE and the entire industry.

However, Roman didn’t want anyone to call him that until his cousin acknowledged it first, but Jey insisted he didn’t recognise the man standing in front of him anymore.

He said he would have won the title at Clash of Champions if Jimmy hadn’t thrown in the towel, while Reigns described their match as the worst night of his life because he didn’t want to cause him pain, he wanted to elevate him.

He offered him a rematch at Hell in a Cell, but warned that if he accepts – which he shouldn’t, for his own good – that it would have the highest possible stakes.

Jey accepted the challenge no matter what, but AJ Styles ended up coming out to bring him down and insist he isn’t a worthy challenger and should step aside.

It led to a great, competitive and gripping opening contest between two brilliant superstars, and Uso more than held his own against one of the top talents in the entire world.

Jey picked up a huge win, looking like more of a threat to Reigns than he ever has.
Of course, Roman will be keeping the title at Hell In A Cell – but after the manner of his Clash of Champions win, the promise of high stakes and Uso’s building momentum, it’s shaping up to be a special rematch.

Best of the rest

We’ll jump over to the main event of the evening, which saw Sami Zayn – who had ditched Jeff Hardy’s ‘scam’ Intercontinental Championship earlier in the night – defend his title against the Charismatic Enigma.

The two stars went all out and delivered a match worthy of the belt and the spot they were given, with Zayn picking up the win after he tripped Jeff and sent him into an exposed turnbuckle.

Going back to the start of the night after Jey beat AJ, John Morrison got totally squashed by Otis in very little time – before Sheamus battered Shorty G and won with two Brogue Kicks.

WWE superstars Alexa Bliss and Kevin Owens on SmackDown

The KO Show came to SmackDown this week as Kevin Owens hinted he could easily be moving to the blue brand during next week’s draft.

Alexa Bliss was his guest as she delivered her promo in a strange and unnerving style, admitting that her ‘brain has been washed’, cleansed of all the lies as she told Owens to let him in as the lights went out.

They came back on with The Fiend locking Kevin in the Mandible Claw as Bliss watched on, before Bray Wyatt’s alter ego walked over and held her hand.

In a decent enough, fast paced match we then saw Matt Riddle pick up a win as he teamed with Lucha House Party’s Lince Dorado and Gran Metalik against King Corbin, Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura.

It didn’t really add much to either storyline that we haven’t seen before, besides Kalisto accidentally kicking Dorado in the face – and after the bell he congratulated Riddle before Dorado started shoving him over the miscommunication.

Something needs to change for all six men here, with Riddle and Corbin treading water, and Cesaro and Nakamura needing fresh challengers for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles.

Hopefully, next week’s draft can do exactly that.

Elsewhere, Carmella was revealed as the mystery woman as she insisted he has remembered who she is after getting lost for a while.

Sasha Banks also called out Bayley and branded her nothing but a coward and revealed they will be facing each other next week on SmackDown for the Women’s Title.

Hopefully something happens to make that contest not take place, because they both deserve a much bigger stage.
