Manchester City have congratulated Tottenham following their 6-1 demolition of Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side took the lead through Bruno Fernandes but found themselves trailing 4-1 by half time and a man down following Anthony Martial’s red card for lashing out at Erik Lamela.
Spurs scored two without reply in the second half to complete their 6-1 victory, leaving United with just three points from their opening three Premier League matches.
And after the defeat, City opted to rub salt in the wounds with a brief message on Twitter as they shared Tottenham’s picture of the scoreline along with a handshake emoji.
Several United players, including Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes, have apologised to United fans for the result.
Meanwhile, Solskjaer claimed after the match that it was his ‘worst day ever’ since he replaced Jose Mourinho as manager nearly two years ago.
‘It’s very embarrassing, it hurt all the players,’ said Solskjaer.
‘It hurts me as the manager. It’s my worst day ever.
‘I’ll hold my hands up, I’m responsible for this.
‘I’ve lost 5-0 with United and we’ve lost 6-1. We’ve lost big results before and always bounced back.
‘I promise we’ll do everything we can to turn this around.’
