London is among the eight regions that moved into a tier two lockdown today, which sees a ban on households mixing indoors.

Joining London in the move to tier two are Barrow-in-Furness, Elmbridge, York, north-east Derbyshire, Erewash and Chesterfield.

The Prime Minister’s negotiations with Manchester over the city’s tier 3 lockdown continues, and Boris Johnson has said he ‘will intervene’ if they cannot reach an agreement.

Meanwhile, twenty-two European countries recorded their highest ever daily number of coronavirus cases on Friday.

These countries include France, Greece, and Italy.

The news comes as 136 people died with coronavirus and a further 15,650 positive tests were reported in the UK yesterday.

This brings the UK’s death toll to 43,429, and the total number of cases to 689,257.
