Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) is faced with the prospect of saying farewell to Todd (Gareth Pierce) once and for all in Coronation Street, but will she agree go along with a plan to host a fake funeral for her son?
With Todd having got wind of a body that matches his description, he begs Eileen to identify said body as him, in an effort to make it appear that he’s dead.
Eileen struggles with such a request, and is ultimately unable to comply — leaving Todd fuming, as he comes to the realisation that he’ll have to disappear forever.
Mary Taylor (Patti Clare) listens as a devastated Eileen reveals that Todd is alive, and that she’s been seeing him in secret — and her heart breaks for her pal.
She opens up to George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) about Eileen’s predicament, and the undertaker’s blood runs cold upon hearing the name of gangster Mick Costello.
Determined to help, he and Mary come up with a solution to Eileen’s problems, as they plan to fake Todd’s death via a fake funeral service so that Mick will think the young man has met his demise.
Meanwhile, Eileen manages to scrape together some cash to help Todd pay off the gangster, but upon learning of Mary and George’s plan, she’s left confused.
She has little time to consider such an option, however, as Mick arrives on the cobbles, forcing Todd to hide upstairs in No. 11.
Will Eileen allow Mary and George to carry out their plan and thus stage a funeral?
Apparently not, as Mick confronts Eileen!
He reveals that he and Todd were formerly lovers, before Todd stole from him.
Todd makes a noise upstairs, and Mick comes to realise what’s going on, and therefore takes the family hostage.
Will Eileen be forced to say goodbye to her son for real, this time?
