Chelsea may look at Arsenal transfer target Thomas Partey as a potential alternative to Declan Rice, according to reports.
Frank Lampard wants to add a defensive midfielder to his ranks before the transfer window deadline closes on Monday.
The Blues have already invested heavily in their squad this summer, buying the likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell and most recently, goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
With Chelsea’s defensive frailties exposed once again in their 3-3 draw with West Bromich Albion last weekend, adding a player in midfield to protect their back line could help matters.
Rice is believed to be Lampard’s top target to fill that position, but West Ham have remained insistent that they do not want to lose their star man.
And according to the Guardian, the Blues could view Atletico Madrid midfielder Partey a potential alternative option to Rice.
The Telegraph also add that Chelsea scouts have been watching Atletico Madrid over recent months.
Partey’s contract at the Spanish club includes a £45 million release clause, which Arsenal are yet to activate.
The report from the Telegraph states that the Gunners are also interested in Chelsea midfielder Jorginho.
